QuickTime Player app not opening

I've been trying to open the QuickTime Player App in my application folder on my MacBook Air M2 2022. I can click on it and it shows up in my Dock but nothing is happening, it does not open. Not sure this happened after updating to Sonoma or what. Is the QuickTime Player App discontinued and can I delete it off my MacBook Air as it is useless now or am I doing something wrong? Any other App suggestions similar to QuickTime Player? Thanks

when you open QTP, it will appear as if nothing happened. you need to use Apple Menu > QuickTime Player > File and then choose an action, such as "New Screen Recording".
