Use a Symbolic link to move iOS backup

I'm interested in backing up my iPhone backup files, but I don't really want to store two copies of everything. What I would like to do it put a symbolic link at the default save location and redirect the files to a folder residing in my Dropbox folder. That way it automatically backs up and doesn't require two copies of everything. However, since I have a LOT of files in the backup, I want to know it works before I make my computer busy for a day. I know Apple is now sand-boxing everything. Will symbolic works still work like that?

I use this procedure everyday to backup my iOS devices to an external drive. You can use the procedure to backup to your Dropbox folder and that should work as you have outlined. I have latest macOS and iOS versions installed.
