looking for possible malware in activity monitor - FPCK service?

Can't find any reference (Google, etc) to this, even in Apple help - is it something to worry about? Listed as Apple under "kind" - does this mean it's OK?

Looking in Activity Monitor is probably only going to cause you unwarranted concerns.

Do please run Etrecheck, and post its full report here. We will be able to look at it and see if there is anything worth fixing. Etrecheck was made so that we users here in the forums can help each other. It is perfectly safe, and will give us enough information about what is installed, and does not share any private information - which you can check for yourself before posting anything.

Not necessarily from Apple .

FYI - Malware does not automatically appear on the computer

It would have Required Actions by the Owner of this computer to have downloaded Dodgy Software

Then to have Given Expressed Permission to by pass the Mac app security enhancements

It would be suggested to look else where, not in Activity Monitor if " looking for possible malware "

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

The focus being >> the ability to Find and Remove Malware

Sorry but you will need to translate that to something we can all understand it.

" Is etrecheckPro in this category, i.e.safe to download? "

Yes.

Background Etrecheck Application

At one time there was an  Etrecheck Application available on the Apple Apps Store.

Due to certain constrains place upon the Developer by APPLE, the developer chose to remove it from the Store and make is available Directly from them.

This specific application is well known,  on these Forums,  as a Go To for trouble shooting and avoiding all the question / answer and question / answer to finally get the issue pinned down.

It is also known and reported by Reliable Sources that,  sometimes APPLE SUPPORT has invoked using this same Developer Distributed Version of Etrecheck application to trouble shot computer issues

Lastly - should you decide to use and post the Report now or at a later time, we are willing to have a very close look and offer some insights

Welcome and no issue 😎

Generally and from personal usages over the 21 years on various Apple Devices.

Unless there is a Hardware issue they just work

Now, it is when an individual start attempting to modify or later macOS / iOS via various methods,

That is when all sorts of things go go wrong

From one senior to another senior - happing computing
