The developer of the app chooses which iOS versions they want to support. If your device is not capable of running the needed version for that app, then you will need to purchase a newer phone.

Depends on the model of the phone. Go to Settings > General > About, and post what is listed under:

• iOS Version
• Model Name

Go to Settings>General>Software Update.

If your phone can be updated, the update will be offered there for you to approve and install.
