iTunes will not install on Windows

The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.

Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified.

Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit.

This is the error message I get every time I try to install iTunes on Windows 10. I am now stuck without iTunes, despite iTunes previously working on this computer for years.

I have tried installing older versions of iTunes which does not work.

I have tried installing the latest version of iTunes 'for older video cards'.

I have tried installing 32 bit iTunes, which refuses to install on a 64 bit system.

I then tried to manually clear out every leftover of Apple software (removing files within AppData, Program Files, Documents… and removing registry keys). I uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support and Bonjour, hoping a completely fresh install would work… but it is still not working.

I am of course running as Administrator and tried running with antivirus disabled. I am stumped by this error message because I am still running Windows 10 and have had no hardware changes??

Please appropriately read the question before answering. I have ran the setup as Administrator, disabled antivirus, and tried older builds — the three things you suggested.

I will however read the support page you linked as it contains lots of detailed information, thank you.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
