Why Does My iCloud Drive Folder Take Up Half My Hard Drive; How Do I Stop It From Doing So?

My hard drive is only 250GB total. I only have 40GB remaining free.

My iCloud account has 2TB of storage because I have a subscription to Apple One.

iMac (2017 – 2020)

I have tried optimising iCloud settings and deleting some files but nothing's helped. I don't even know what is taking up so much space; my I cloud says it's only 5gb full out of 50. unable to free up iCloud storage the documents stored in the top level of your icloud drive folder take up 2.4GB ... Can someone tell me how to settle this issue ?

iCloud storage synching question Looking at my MacBook Pro 16" 500 GB storage I see 193.89 GB is taken up by iCloud Drive. But I thought iCloud Drive is actually in iCloud online. I am synching everything (Documents, etc.) to iCloud as I have a 2 TB plan. So why is it taking up nearly 40% of my hard disk and what can I do to free up more space on my hard disk? Thank you.

You can disable iCloud Drive in the settings for iCloud completely or enable which data you want to save on your Mac.
