How to stop files from synchronizing across devices with same Apple ID

My iMac and my laptop have the same Apple ID. How can I separate what both computers have on the desktop? I don't want everything from my iMac desktop to be on the laptop and visa versa. Is this possible?

You can turn off the desktop and documents in icloud on one or both of them.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I figured there was a way. Is that in the iCloud setting on the individual device or iCloud.com?
