Pages operation

Please could some advise why I am unable to amend text in a table. The page keeps resetting to the top of the document or the cell infills with an orange colour and won’t accept keyboard entries. Many thanks.

New Document in Pages I typed a table in Pages, and stored it. When I came to open it again to edit, all the four columns had merged into one, and I had to start moving the columns back into line.
