Help! The photos cannot be imported from iphone to an external drive as usual after 1st April 2024

Macbook air 2018

macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224)

Photos.app Version 9.0 (646.2.101)

Iphone 14 iOS 17.4.1

External drive: WD ExFAT 6TB

The importing photos/videos worked well before 31.03.2024. After then, It does't work any more from iphone to the external drive.

The problem: The photos.app shows the imported and new photos & videos well. But after clicking "Import all new items", nothing happens except it switches the window to "imports".

What I have tried: restarted, cable changed, software updated, new photoslibrary created, full disc access opened.

Need help! Thank you very much in advance!

Well, this is the problem. To avoid damaging the Photos Library an external drive must be formatted in either APFS format or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Additionally, the drive can not have had Time Machine on it since it was formatted. There have been so many problems with using incompatible drives that the newest macOSs won't even allow a Library on a non-Mac formatted drive to open, since there is a chance of damaging the Photos database.
