Finder fails to show new files created/downloaded via Terminal on Sonoma 14.4.1

Hi all,

I updated my mac mini 2020 M1 recently to Sonoma 14.4.1

and the files created or downloaded to external HDD volume through Terminal(iTerm2 technically) doesn't show up on Finder after update. (I can check it exists on Terminal via `ls -l`)

What I've done for workaround is: stop sync for iCloud Drive

After rebooting the mac solves the problem temporarily but it will recur some time later (I think after a week)

Anybody same as mine? Solved in other ways?

Oh, I don't use iCloud Drive either. I only tried this workaround from other topic: Finder stopped working after macOS 14 upd… - Apple Community

this worked for 2wks and backfires for this week.

My issue only comes up when I work with external drive. Home directory works fine.

Sometimes Finder is slow to update folder contents. I often see it when via the Terminal exiftool makes a backup copy of the original image: the copy is invisible until there is some Finder-induced update (delete some file etc) in that folder. I guess re-launching Finder would also do the same thing.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried killing process of Finder both from Activity app and from pkill -9 Finder with no improvement.

Also, "taking time to renew the cache" should not mean it takes several days, right? I executed echo > txt on Sunday night and it never showed up on Tuesday morning. Only rebooting with iCloud Drive sync off worked.

I don't use iCloud Drive so I can not comment on that. Do you see this also on some non-iCloud drive folder like ~/test? Does Finder update its contents if you use Finder to make another folder inside that folder or use some Apple's app to make a new file inside that folder?

I finally decided not to do any kind of terminal-related tasks on external drives ever again. I found an issue from other article written in my mother tongue which complains that Sonoma seems to malfunction along with the external drives. Thanks for the replies.
