How to view files by connecting MacBook Pro and iMac

How do I connect another computer on my network to look at files. I have a MacBook pro connected by wifi. The iMac is connected by ethernet. I want to view files on the iMac on my MacBook pro. I went to system preference>sharing but it asks for a password that I don't know.

'Connected to your home network' does not care what medium is being used. Ethernet or Wi-Fi make no difference.

'File Sharing' in this context is 'making YOUR files available for others'. Once available, the other Mac "just uses them" as if they were local files.

The password required is the same password needed to access those same files if logged in. If you want access to ALL files, you will need credentials that would provide access to ALL files if logged in, such as the Admin username and password.
