The program "MBSAppleWatchReporter" cannot be opened. -609

Several times a week show the message “The program “MBSApleWatchReporter” cannot be opened. -609”. I reinstalled the OS, but the message still appears. I've never owned an Apple Watch. What could be the problem? Please help.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.7

Here's what could be causing it and how to fix it:

Possible Causes:

  • Residual Apple Watch Software: Even though you haven't used an Apple Watch, there might be leftover software components related to it on your system. These could be remnants of a past installation attempt or test by a previous user.
  • Corrupted System Files: Sometimes corrupted system files can lead to strange error messages like this. Reinstalling the OS might not have addressed the specific corrupted file causing the issue.

Solutions:

  1. Remove MBSAppleWatchReporter:
  • Launch Terminal: Open Spotlight (magnifying glass icon) and search for "Terminal."
  • Run a removal script:  Be cautious when running any script you find online. However, here's a common approach:
    • Type the following command (without quotes) and press Enter: sudo rm -rf /System/Library/CoreServices/MBSApleWatchReporter.app
    • Enter your administrator password when prompted. (This command removes the MBSAppleWatchReporter application.)

  1. Reset SMC and PRAM:
  • Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and Parameter RAM (PRAM) can sometimes resolve issues caused by corrupted system settings. You can find instructions specific to your iMac model year online by searching for "[your iMac model year] Reset SMC PRAM"
  1. Safe Boot:
  • Booting your Mac in Safe Mode can help diagnose software conflicts. Restart your Mac while holding the Shift key. This will perform a basic system check and might prevent the MBSAppleWatchReporter error from loading. If the error doesn't appear in Safe Mode, it suggests a software conflict.
  1. Check for Third-Party Software:
  • In rare cases, third-party software can introduce conflicts. Consider if you recently installed any new apps around the time the error message started appearing. Try temporarily uninstalling them to see if it resolves the issue

I hope you manage to fix it bro, let me know.

The best answer that I've found is that your iTunes is having issues connecting to your account, and can't verify your identity.

Best solution for me was:

Sign-out of iTunes Store, quit itunes, load iTunes, log into store, get album artwork.

BAM! Artwork and no errors.
