Clock icon won’t go away on locked screen
Go to settings
Select Wallpaper
Select customize (at bottom of screen on wallpaper)
Select Widgets
Remove clock widget by pressing the minus (-) button
That worked for me!

You can remove widgets, but, to the best of my knowledge, you can't remove the large time display.
