how to use phone jack on studio beats?

IK want to use my headphones when on an aiorplane. The Beqats studio came with a cable and there is an audio jack on the headphones. Yet when I attach the cable to an audio source, I do not hear a thing.

There is no decription on the support page for what the audio jack does or how to use the cable.
