Screen Record not working in IOS Imac

I wanted to record a screen, but it wont show up when i click shift+command+5 it only shows capture, if i try with quicktime player it does shows and then i can click the record button, but there is no button or anything else to stop it, and after sometime if i quit the quicktime it ask "record will not be saved". there is no option i can find anywhere to stop record
