Why does my iPhone XR stop charging at 80%?

iPhone XR stopped charging at 80% and even though the body temperature of the device didn't seem to be above 40C it kept showing the message that iPhone has stopped charging and will resume when temperature drops.

Like it says the device stopped charging completely. After multiple hard restarts and plugging in and out the charging cable it started charging but stopped at 86% and remained there. Frustrated I restarted the device once and again to my shock the battery read 91% somehow. After another subsequent restart battery went back down to 86%.

Note that Optimised Charging is turned off, location, bluetooth, data is also turned off to prevent any sort of heating.

I am running ios 17.4.1

Is there any solution to this??

Hello,

Hmm, if you are charging with a cable:

Check the charging port for lint or other debris (use a bright light and a toothpick).

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won‘t charge

You might also try wireless charging: How to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 or later

Also, see this for reference:

If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

Good luck.
