Forgetting your password while trying to enable Face ID on your device can be frustrating, but don't worry! I've been there, and I can guide you through the steps to get back on track.
Firstly, if your device is an iPhone or an iPad, you’ll need to reset your password. You can do this directly from your device, provided it's connected to the internet. Here’s how:
- Attempt to unlock your device a few times until you see a message that says, "iPhone is disabled" or "iPad is disabled."
- You should then see an option to go to "Erase [device]" which appears after more unsuccessful attempts. This option will erase your device and let you set it up as new, but it’s a last resort.
- If you haven't reached that point yet, try to reset your password via iCloud. Go to iCloud.com from a computer or another device and sign in with your Apple ID. From there, you can go to "Find My iPhone" > "All Devices" and select your device. You’ll see an option to erase your device which allows you to reset your password during the device setup process.
Remember, after resetting your device, you’ll have the opportunity to set up Face ID again, and it’s a good idea to choose a memorable password or write it down and keep it somewhere safe. Setting up two-factor authentication, if available, can also add an extra layer of security and simplify the recovery process in the future.
