How do i migrate one user from an old macbook air to a new one

I need to MIGRATE one user from a 2017 MacBook Air to a new M3 MacBook Air.

Approximately 250GB.

1. Will MIGRATION ASSISTANT move just one of the two users from the old MacBook Air?

2. I believe my only option is WiFi?! Will this take long? Is their another option keeping in mind the old MacBook air only has USB.

3. Is there another option?

4. Would I be advised to return to Apple Store and get them to do it?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.7

In addition to using Wifi, there is an easy and obvious option that you should consider.

Have your old mac use Time Machine - you should use it, anyway!

Then take your Time Machine drive and connect to your new mac, and use it with Migration Assistant.

That eliminates the Wifi risk of the process; plus, your new mac will inherit the backup drive with its complete history - you can continue to use it for backup seamlessly.

  1. Migration Assistant will move all of your system's preferences and whatever users you have installed on the old Mac. (if you select that transfer option.) When the Migration is completed you will have the transferred user(s) plus the new user you initially set you in the new computer. You may then delete any users you do not want to keep.
  2. Do not use Wi-Fi as it almost always causes problems. If you must use it, then place both computers side-by-side. Better to use a wired connection for the transfer.
  3. See above.
  4. That is up to you. The transfer using Migration Assistant is easy to do assuming that you pay attention and follow the instructions.
