Genius Bar Tech asked me to remove "Find My Mac" before I left it for repairs. Is this normal?

I brought in my computer for a cracked screen. The apple tech said I'll need to leave it and it should be ready in couple of days or so. He asked me before leaving it, to please remove the "FIND MY" to the computer. I asked why does it need to be turned off. He answered that if I reported the mac missing in the middle of repairs, it would cause a big problem. Now Im really concerned.
