Playing music and answering calls on Carplay

if I am using CarPlay and answer a phone call, my Apple Music will not resume playing after the call—or rather, it resumes but with zero volume. It does not respond to adjusting the volume. I have to disconnect CarPlay and then reconnect it to get it to play correctly again. Why?
