midi playback is silent in Logic Pro X

I have a Roland fp-7 keyboard, a focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audio interface, and Logic Pro x on my MacBook. right now I can see the signal in Logic Pro and when I play notes are recorded. but when I try to play it back the track is silent. its registering in the software, and I can hear the keyboards' default grand piano through my speakers, but trying to listen to a recorded track isn't working.
