iPhone notifications messing with my Mac mini

I use my Mac mini as a video player connected to my TV using the AppleTV app. When a notification pops up on my iPhone, the video playing on the Mac mini starts jumping around. I've turned off all notifications on the mini and I think I've disabled handoff. I can't really think of a reason why this is happening. I'd appreciate any suggestions for a resolution.
