Syncing iCloud iMessages Not Working

Trying to synch iMessages from my iPhone 14 to the a MacBook Air with Monterey on it from 2017. Both devices are signed into iCloud and I can see all the messages on the phone, but when synching to the MacBook Air it stops at October 2023 and doesn't go further. The same issue is apparent when I try on a friends MacBook Air with similar specs and it does the same thing. Any ideas why this is happening?
