Is is worth to upgrade my MacBook from macOS Ventura to Sonoma?

MacOS Sonoma look like a great upgrade to Mac but should I really upgrade it? I mean a 7.44 GB download is a lot do I really need to download it.

My current version of MacOS is MacOS Ventura and it looks like it fits in the softwares of 2024 I can see features that are almost unbelievable on other windows devices.

In conclusion should I upgrade?

I do not know how an upGrade from macOS 13.5 ( use byline ) Ventura to Sonoma 14.4.1 could possible be only 7.44 GB as per your image above

A Full Version of Sonoma on the Apple Store register in a 12.12 GB

In theory, this computer can jump from Ventura 13.5 Directly to Sonoma 14.4.1

Suggest having at least 50 GB of Empty Space on the drive.

It will allow the Full Version ( about 12.xx GB ) to download, then expand and then commence to install.

If there is Third Party Security Software installed - remove it.

It will interfere with both the download and installation process.

Always make a Time Machine Backup  before doing any upDates / upGrades

If there are features in Sonoma that you think you need, you should upgrade.

Apple has been providing security updates for the most current and the previous two macOS versions.

After that point, if some zero-day exploit appears that you feel you might be a target, an upgrade may be necessary. What is the probability someone would want to hack your Mac?

Apple writes the OS to take advantage of new hardware in the Mac’s they are about to ship. They are not writing a new macOS for your Mac. It’s quite possible they weren’t able to exploit some capability your Mac hardware enables. In that case, a newer OS might be an improvement.

If you wait too long, it might be difficult to absorb the incremental changes that happened along the way while three major versions were released.

FYI

Have upGraded 3 different computer to Sonoma 14.4.1

One from macOS 11 Bug Sur to macOS 12 Monterey to macOS 13 Ventura to macOS 14.0 to and including Sonoma 14.4.1 - No Issues

The Second from macOS 13.4 to directly to Sonoma 14.0 and every update including Sonoma 14.4.1 - No Issues

The last was a M3 MBA originally came with Sonoma 14.3 and every update to Sonoma 14.4.1 - No Issues

There were No Migrations from any Older Versions of macOS from Older Computers I once owned.

To point being for OP - Due Diligence Before rather than afterwards has allows worked well.
