Subscription Prices Are Inaccurate

I just noticed that one of my subscriptions had doubled in price from an Apple subscription renewal email. I double checked my subscriptions on MacOS (using the App Store app) and found that I had two options to renew, I could pay monthly for $2.99 or yearly for $14.99.

I also checked the subscription price on my iPhone to make sure it wasn't just a bug in the MacOS app. Again the annual subscription was $14.99.

I then reached out to Apple support via chat and they told me that I would be charged $29.99.

Which is it? It looks like the price has probably been raised to $29.99 but that there is a bug where Apple is giving old prices on their subscription page on MacOS and iOS.

I am showing $29.99 for the yearly subscription. The page you are seeing is provided by the App Developer and is not the Apple page that confirms the subscription showing the price along with double clicking the side button. The developer is at fault here for not updating the price on the page where they want you to choose a subscription option. With the information you have, you may have two options:

  • I would think that would be enough information to for Apple to approve a refund, but that is up to them. They may not be able to give you the subscription for $14.99, but should be able to cancel it if you wish.
  • Contact the developer, they are not able to issue refunds, but can give you a Promo Code that would give you a subscription for another year.

I see the same thing as Mac Jim ID in the iPhone App Store. The annual price is $29.99.

The prices that the App Store lists are set by the developer and that is what you will be charged by Apple.

The plot thickens, even with the dual prices shown on apple's subscription of Bear (iOS and Mac OS) of $29.99 and $14.99 and the call to Apple to confirm it is a bug and should be charged at $29.99... I received a charge for the correct $14.99.

Who knows what is correct but I got the best option. I hope they fix this bug soon.

Hey, I would just take it... it's possible the developers are aware of the discrepancy and only charging the lower, posted amount for the time being while they fix it.
