Unable to screen capture on my external monitors connected to my MacBook Pro

Shift cmd 4 always defaults to my built in display on my macbook pro m1 running Sonoma 14.4.1.. I am using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and two external displays connected to a j5 create dock. Why can I not screen capture on my external monitors
