How do I stop a file (or window) from moving right before I drop a file into a folder

Every time I'm about to place a file into a folder (I'm trying to place it nicely and orderly in a row), the window "jerks" right before I let go of the file. It drives me crazy. I once fixed it, but I can't figure out how I did it. I researched for hours and I still can't find the answer. What do I need to "click" to stop that nonsense? Thanks! (:
