Apple Watch SE Series 1 - Can it pair with Iphone 8 running ios 16.7.7?

Bought what I thought was a Apple Watch SE Series 1, but am unable to pair it with my iPhone 8 running 16.7.7. I currently have an Apple Watch SE Series 1 paired with it, but the face got busted up so I bought "new" one on ebay. Is it just not possible anymore to pair SE Series 1 with Iphone 8, or is this an SE Series 2 and was labeled wrong?
