iMac 24 M1 2021, Sonoma 14.4.1. As soon as I attach an external SSD the system crashes, attaching other external SSD's do not cause crash. I get same crash with a MacBook and this SSD. SSD must be bad. Tried Safe mode, still crashes. Can I get MacOS to fix/format SSD without crashing? Any other way to reset SSD?

What model of SSD and what filesystem?
Install the vendor's utility on another computer that doesn't have this issue and update the SSD firmware. The T7 had issues with older firmware.
Much better if you try to fix it with a Pc windows 10 or 11 if get fixed then format in xfat then plug the ssd in your iMac and format it with the macOS journaled extend and the Scheme with Guid partition map
Thanks for the response. I don't have access to Windows machine, will have to find one.
Samsung T7, format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
