If your company has proof of original purchase, they can provide that to Apple who will remove the activation lock.

Unfortunately, without access to the previous user's password, signing out of the current Apple ID on the device is not possible. The best solution would be to contact your IT department or the person responsible for managing work devices to assist with resetting the phone or unlinking it from the previous user's account.
