How do I save a shape with text in

pages as an image?

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.11

Select the shape and copy it to the clipboard. Launch Apple's Preview and choose File menu > New from Clipboard. At this point, you will have a 72 dpi PNG image in Preview that you can then save, or export in another image (or PDF) format.
