I tunes library play count no longer working

Hello. Firstly, I do not stream music. I still have iPods and sync them often with my iTunes Library on my Mac laptop.

Also have my entire library on an iPad. I listen to the library all the time on these devices. I have noticed that the play count is no longer updating. Does anyone have any idea why please?
