Ipod playback on Apple Music

I understand that iTunes is gone on Monterey and am fine with using the Apple Music app. I can't seem to be able to play back (ie, listen) any of the tracks from my ipod. I would like to update my songs and am having no trouble deleting from and adding to the ipod. I just need to know if I can actually get the songs to play so that I can hear what I am editing. Thanks for any insights!
