What dot shows you need an update? If you own an iPhone 7, the maximum iOS version you can run on your iPhone is iOS 15.8.2. You cannot get iOS 16 or iOS 17.
If an app update is telling you need a higher level iOS than the highest your phone can support, you won't be able to update the app and you'll need to buy a newer, more modern iPhone which can be updated higher.
