Might also want to bring along the contact numbers of recovery providers in the area of your planned excursion, too.
SOS will send emergency text messages to emergency services, how you use that is up to you.
AAA does indeed say that they "do not provide off-road vehicle recovery."
That's not the end of the story. You seem to be ignoring the possibility of vehicles breaking down on the side of the road in an area with no cell phone coverage and no nearby Wi-Fi hot spots. My impression is that there are a lot of such areas out West. AAA Roadside Assistance via satellite would be useful for people stranded in those vehicles.
