How to manage data usage between Cellular and Wi-Fi on iPhone?

I have always just used Cellular but quite awhile now I’m forced to turn on my WiFi to get on certain sites. My daughter says I don’t need to use WiFi & just use my Cellular time. Why has it changed? Is it my phone or my carrier?

It is your iPhone settings.

Set cellular data use for apps and services

Go to Settings > Cellular, then turn Cellular Data on or off for any app (such as Maps) or service (such as Wi-Fi Assist) that can use cellular data. If a setting is off, iPhone uses only Wi-Fi for that service. Note: Wi-Fi Assist is on by default.
