How to ensure iCloud folder is in the Cloud but not locally stored?

I want to move a large folder from Google Drive into iCloud and stop paying Google for storage. I want the files accessible in the cloud,but do not want them to be stored locally. Over time, iCloud does this automatically, but is there a way to force it to happen manually and free up local storage on my MacBook?
