my friends apple phone has been damaged by sitting in rainwater overnight. no battery life after 5 days of rice bag. Need textx off of it. Anyway to view texts from the # without operational phone?

For the future, leaving a phone in rice does nothing to help the phone and may even damage it further if rice gets lodged in the charging port.
Is there a way to retrieve texts from an iPhone that was damaged by water?
