Your profile indicates that you have an iPhone 6 with iOS 12 installed. The iPhone 6 cannot be updated past iOS version 12.x which you already have. You will need a newer version iPhone to use higher versions of the iOS.

You're right. If you own an iPhone 6, iOS 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 cannot be installed on such an old, no longer supported phone. The maximum iOS version which can run on iPhone 6 is iOS 12.5.7. If you need a higher level iOS version, then you'll need to retire your 10 year old iPhone and buy a newer, more modern iPhone.
