Purchased Books Not Opening in Books App

A number of books previously purchased via the Books app on my iPad can no longer be accessed. Their covers have also reverted to a plain cover with the title details. How do I recover and access these books please? Books app is set to back up to iCloud but I have not downloaded books elsewhere. Appreciate any help.

Try checking your internet connection, restarting your Mac, updating to the latest software version, or signing in to the correct Apple ID. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support for further assistance.
