using outlook, messages stuck in outbox, sync stuck too

windows 11. dell desktop. all updated. using outlook for years with mac.com email address. Lately the synch process lags or never completes and when the "send mail out" finishes processing, some messages are stuck in the inbox and the sent date changes to none
