Apple Music is importing a CD rip into /Music/Music/Media/Music

My entire Music library is on a USB-attached external drive.

In the root of this drive is the Music folder

In Apple Music, in Preferences > Files > Music Media Folder location, I have /External_Drive/Music/Music/Media.

I created this path to reflect the original path that existed on my MacMini's boot drive, many MacOS versions ago, when we were all still using iTunes.

All of my music that I had imported into Apple Music has existed under /Music/Music/Media, but recently CDs that I have imported or music that I have downloaded from Apple (with my subscription) are all going into the /Music/Music/Media/Music folder.

I don't understand why my CDs are being imported into /Music/Music/Media/Music

When managing my files, which is an ongoing process with Music, I now have a directory of music within a directory of music.

Mac mini, macOS 14.4

If you have your library files on your internal drive, with the media folder on an external, then any time that Music launches and isn't immediately able to detect the external path there is a risk that the media folder will revert to the default path. See Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community for general advice. I would suggest moving the active library to <External>/Music, and then the media to <External>/Music/Media. You should consolidate the library to copy content from the internal to the external drive. Once there it should be possible to move/rename the current media folder without breaking any links.
