Why does my mac download lots of data from icloud drive every day?

Why does my mac download lots of data from icloud drive every day?

Every day when I turn on my Mac, I can see iCloud Drive downloading about 20-30GB of data, even if nothing has changed. It may be a problem when I am using LTE.

How can I avoid this?

Thanks for the reply. Well, I have already tried with both "Optimize Storage" on and off. No obvious difference. I still have 70% of my local disk free. Looks like it always downloads already downloaded files again and again. I also use OneDrive, and it only syncs changed files...
