not a nice question to have to ask but my father in law passed away earlier in the year and his wife still has full access to his Mac and icloud (she has all the passwords ). She has backed up all his documents but She was wondering if there is anyway she could transfer the photos over to her account as it would take ages to download 250gb worth from his iCloud ?

This is what I would do if downloading is taking too long:
Set up a new user account on a computer
Set up Photos on that user account to sync to the iCloud photos
Wait for the sync to complete
Turn off iCloud sync on the library
You now have the images in a photo library and you can do with those what you wish
On a Mac,
Open photos
Go to photos > settings > iCloud and enable iCloud photos
When you create a new user account on a Mac it will ask you to set up iCloud at the same time.
Similar on a PC.
On the new user account, install iCloud for Windows to sync photos using that iCloud account
“Set up Photos on that user account to sync to the iCloud photos”
how would I do this ?
I don’t think I understand the whole process . How do I point the sync to the existing library and I thought that the photos on the Mac won’t be the original copies as they try and save space ?
