yahoo took over my att.net email on iPad

On a random day I lost my email access from att.net. I called att customer service and they had me dizzy trying to figure out why. But after several ATT agents and several hours, they told me I would have to use Yahoo or Currently for email. I was furious. I liked my simple MAIL program. It was flawless & easy. After complaining over & over that I didn’t want to move my email to Yahoo, I saw that the MAIL icon on my Dock was gone!! HELP an oldster, please…

Did you maybe drag it off of the dock?

Can you find it in the App Library?

click here ➜ Find your apps in App Library on iPad - Apple Support

Once you get it back from there, then explain what exactly happens when you try to access your email account through the mail app.

Make sure the settings for your Email account are correct in Settings ➜ Mail ➜ Accounts ➜ Your ATT Email.

The incoming server should be set to: imap.mail.att.net

Deleting and re-adding your email account is sometimes the easiest way to resolve a problem with a specific Mail account. After deleting the account, perform a forced restart before re-adding the email account to your iPad.

  • Delete account:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your Mail Account] > Delete Account

  • Force restart the iPad:

Force restart iPad - Apple Support

  • Add Mail Account:

Settings > Mail > Add Account

Also be aware that some email providers now require the use of App Specific Passwords when accessing mail over IMAP or POP3. If this applies to your email account, you will need to generate a unique password for your iPad email account - that will differ from your normal Account Password. As examples - AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft all use App Specific Passwords when using anything other than their own email client Apps.

If you need to generate an App Specific Password, you’ll need to log-in to your Mail Providers account management webpage - using a web browser - and generate the Password from the appropriate account security page.

More information about AOL’s App Specific Passwords can be found here:

For Yahoo, more information can be found here:

Scroll over to the last page of your screen to app library, find the mail app and you can move it back to your dock.

Thank you! I found it AFTER I entered the app name (Mail) in the search. I had looked at each box in the Library but neglected to “search” for it! Ah, my age is showing! Unfortunately I still can’t my Mail app to send or receive. Nothing appears to be different in the IMAP or SMTP, but can’t see which password is being used. Very frustrating and a huge pain for me. I don’t need the confusion of the Yahoo app. Just the simple MAIL app worked just fine! Everything is changing…
