Pop up ads despite block pop ups marked on in IOS Safari

I have recently begun to get pop-ups on multiple websites in Safari on my iPhone. My iOS is updated to the latest version. I have “block pop ups” active in Safari settings. I have cleared all cookies and browsing history and hard restarted my phone, but I continue to get pop-ups on almost all sites I visit. Is there some other setting I am missing to get these to stop?

A website can also provide a page that looks like a pop up and even animate it to look like a pop up. This is not the traditional pop-up that is blocked by your phone. Many times, these sites do this to make it look like a pop up that would be similar to your phone so that you click on one of the buttons. Other times it will be an advertisement. Sites that use these tactics to get your attention should be avoided.
