Is The Ultra Watch Too Shinny (attractive to big fish) For Open Water Swims??

I swim in the San Francisco Bay and on the West side of Maui and generally avoid wearing shinny watches in open water. I decided the risks may be worth it for the added functionality of the Ultra. But the GPS on the Ultra has been a major disappointment and the risk/benefit (being able to make safety calls) doesn’t pan out for me and I’ve shelved the watch. I love to learn that I’m missing something.
