AirPods first gen, aren’t charging, says it’s staying at 1%

I cleaned my AirPods, I made sure it was plugged in, I disconnected, I charged them without the AirPods in it. It still says 1% charging when it’s not on charge the light on them goes black and it dies. When I hold down the button the white light doesn’t even come on, how can I fix it?
