Hard Drive replacement MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Hi, the hard drive on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) has died and I was hoping to replace it. I was able to retrieve all the data from it so I am not worried about that.

My questions are:

  • Is it possible to replace the hard drive?
  • What hard drive to use?

I was able to install an SSD to use as the Start-up disk following the instructions from Jack-19, so thanks that, it worked perfectly.

This is the info on this model: MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) - Technical Specifications – Apple Support (AU)

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Yes, it is possible to replace the SSD drive (or have it replaced for you by a shop).

250 GB, 500 GB, or 1 TB are your options. The drives are specific for the 2012 models MacBook Airs. Earlier models and later models would use slightly different SSDs.

Use drives that your favorite Mac aftermarket shop recommends. They know what is needed.

See e.g.: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/macbook-air/2012 (for the U.S.).

They also have install videos, to check if you would feel comfortable doing it yourself without breaking anything.

Are you in Australia (AU)? Then search your local shops. Expenses for international shipping aren’t needed.
