CLICKING ON ANY BUTTON DOWNLOADS HTML FILES

In Chrome as well as in Safari, if I click on any link, it downloads the html files instead of opening the link. Tried resetting Chrome, clearing browsing history but still facing the same issue. Its quite annoying.

sorry, what's the solution here?

Stop using " cmd + opt " when clicking a link

There is a setting for the Trackpad that if configure by the user

Change mouse or trackpad tracking, double-click, and scrolling speed on Mac

To change how you secondary click (or Control-click), see Right-click on Mac.

Set up your trackpad to Control-click an item

To Control-click using only your trackpad, you can change its settings.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Trackpad  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the “Secondary click” pop-up menu on the right, then choose an option.
  3. You can choose to Control-click by clicking with one or two fingers.

If I hold down cmd+opt and click the same link, it opens it in a new tab. Does that mean anything? I am facing almost all the issues listed in this thread. Safari downloading html links instead of … - Apple Community

Working on a Desktop computer with External Keyboard and Bluetooth Mouse

Using the cmd + opt and click a link ( url ) will open Safari in a Second New Instance of Safari with the linked page appearing there

I am using cmd + option only because if I don't use it, it just keeps downloading html files instead of opening that link. Secondary click is not the issue here - that is working fine.

The issue is - out of nowhere, any link I click downloads a html file. This started a few hrs ago and any number of resets/restarts won't resolve the issue.
